More packages and restoration.

Well, once again I have neglected this blog. Whoops.

Anyone I got some updates firstly I have fixed the x/y mechanism in my gold morpher. Scroll down to view. Also I have received two packages. Scroll further down to see.

Morpher X/Y Mechanism

This process fixes the gaps that you have in your morpher when closed. It's a very simple procedure and also quick.

You first need to open up your morpher.

Once opened you need to unscrew the 4 screws that hold the x/y plates down and remove the plates.

You will notice on the plates there are two symbols. These show you which one is which. It is best to take a photo or note down which one is which.

upside down image ftw!

Now then what you need to is glue a piece of plastic (styrene works best), about 0.5mm thick, to the two large flat tabs pointed out in the next picture.

Cut down your plastic into a size that is roughly as wide as it needs to be, but longer than it needs to be. This will help when trying to glue it on.

Now glue the pieces of plastic on. This can be tricky and annoying, but a bit of patience will help. Once glued on leave this to dry. I left mine overnight to get a good strong bond.

Once dry, take your knife and trim down all that is not needed and sand down the edges so they are nice and smooth. If they are not smooth this can cause problems such as the morpher not being able to close.

Now assemble back together and the gap should now be gone!

If you find that it is unable to close then you will need to take it apart and sand down the part you have glued on until it will close properly.

Woah! Been a while!

Whoops, it's been a while since i have updated this. Been far to busy! Well theres a few updates.
First is the status of the morpher and second is a couple of packages.

Let's start with the morpher.
The only massive difference i have done to this so far is spray the plates. This is a very simple process and just involves un-screwing them, sanding then spraying.

Once you have the plates removed you will have to sand the old paint off. This is the most time consuming part. For this you will need so fine grit sandpaper as you don't want to put heavy scratches in the plates.

Here's how the plates will look once sanded.

The next step i did was hot glued a stick to each of the underside of the plates. This will help me when it comes to spraying as i can rotate them and stand them up without touching them.

The hot glue comes of easy and does not damage the plates.

Next i stood them in a box and got ready to spray. The spray i used was some i found in the garage as i forgot to get some when i went into town (idiot).

The key to spraying is be gentle. Don't spray on a thick coat. This will just look a mess. The key is to dust it with paint in very thin coats. You can always add more paint, but you can't take any off (well not without sanding the whole lot down again).

I would say these look pretty good.

The finished plates installed back on the morpher.

Next up is fixing the x/y so it closes properly and stickers!

Update 2 : Package
Well i got the a package the other day.

Wonder what it could be, let's open it up and find out!

Hmm, any ideas yet?

Yay, a Dragon coin! But is that all?

And a Tiger coin!

Update 3 : Another package!
Today, i received another package.

Day 1 : Delivery Day

Well today my package arrived in the post. I had one of those nice friendly Royal Mail cards that said they where unable to deliver the package so it was "In the green recycling bin". Well, thanks.

After retrieving it from the bin (how did they get around the back when the gate is locked?) i quickly opened it up and out fell; a power gun, a novelty watch and a power morpher. Not bad for £30

Yes the morpher is upside down. Because the ass hats at BOA (Bandai of America released it that way)

Well, a quick look at the watch and i have decided it's crap and i don't want it, feel free to request for it. The gun has a bit of chrome wear, peeling stickers and a busted speaker. I will repair it at some point and maybe some new stickers and paint. The morpher, well there is a list of things on this. Firstly, the stickers are trash (they where going anyway), the plates don't close properly, the red plate seems cracked, there is rust in the screw holes and from what looks like corrosion in the battery compartment. Oh yeh and the batteries are flat (but light's and sounds do work with some borrowed batteries).

God damn rust!

More rusted screws and corroded batteries, was this thing a bath toy?

Time to unscrew and see what's happening on the inside.

To open it up first unscrew the 4 screws holding the plates on (two on each) then take out the 3 screws at the back of the morpher. Also to take the front red plate of just remove the 2 screws.

One quick tip, so you don't loose the screws, put them into a small bag or pot.

Initial thoughts are, very dirty. Also a lot of rust. But nothing's broken so we will look at the front.

Once again more rust and strangely the speaker is detached from the front.

Here you can see the cracks more clearly.

So overall i have to fix the x/y mechanism so it closes properly, replace the stickers, repaint it, clean up the inside and get some new batteries. I will also be sanding down and mould marks and fixing any other defects.

As i do each part i will upload a full guide, tips and tricks so you can all fix your own morpher.

Come back to soon to see the updates.
I'm thinking on painting it gold, what are your thoughts?
